cosine and Dutch Ministry of Defence sign key strategic contract for in-orbit advanced electro-optical systems

cosine Remote Sensing and the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) have reached an agreement on a key strategic contract for both parties to develop and demonstrate in orbit advanced electro-optical imaging systems. This agreement marks a significant step in developing cutting-edge imaging systems for cosine, as it paves the way for the creation of innovative solutions for larger satellites, designed to push the boundaries of Earth observation and satellite imaging technology.

The contract between cosine Remote Sensing and the Dutch Ministry of Defence scopes the development and demonstration of electro-optical systems in low Earth orbit. The contract is part of the PAMI program, a larger collaboration involving industry and government bodies from the Netherlands and the United States.

One of the goals of the activity is to build new national capabilities for both the Dutch Ministry of Defence and the Dutch space industry. It entails the development of Very High Resolution (VHR) and spectral imaging systems at visible wavelengths as well as the capability to simultaneously overlap the visible information with high-resolution Thermal InfraRed (TIR) imagery of the Earth. All is packaged with the innovative spirit and the orthogonal thinking that cosine features to every new development, providing a distinctive edge that enhances the value of our instrumentation and makes it unique.

Dr Marco Esposito, managing director of cosine Remote Sensing, commented: “This activity boosts the capabilities of cosine and places the organization one step higher in the class of instruments that we develop in our high-tech facilities in the Netherlands, matching the market for primary optical payloads for commercial as well as institutional, defence and ESA programs.”

Maj. Marko, from the Defence Space Security Centre (DSSC) of the Dutch Ministry of Defence: “This is a strategic development that will reinforce the industry technology premiership of the Netherlands in the field of optical payloads technology and will enable new and unique national earth observation capabilities.”

This contract underscores cosine’s commitment to innovation and leadership in the rapidly evolving field of new space technology.
